The Philippine School Choral won 1st runner- up in a choir competition hosted by Kabayan Weekly held in Sharjah Expo Center, Sharjah on April 22, 2017. .The contest was part of a big event entitled Kabayan Cultural Day. The choral was trained by Mr. Pecholo Maturan, Ms. Maebel Able and Mr. Gian Farinas.
The participating students included Aldrich Espaldon, Aron Arnedo, Athena Nicole Tivi, Bea Austria, Darlyne Mae Muyon, Erla Marie Masangkay, Fred Baltazar, Gerard Michael Lim, Januel Andrei Pitoy, Juan Carlos Romero, Jeric Bryant Tribiana, John Jhudiel Barretto, Justine Gio Balunes, Arlyn Kate Carmelo, Kurt Andrei Paras, Lian Marienne Garcia, Mark Kingsley Simeon, Nicholas Andrei Trajeco, Niña Anne Caroline Tababa, Princess Rinoa Gamboa, Samantha Nicole Delgado, Patricia Mae Cacanando, Xandrine Raisa Namocatcat, and Vincent Arnold Pacatang.
They sang ‘Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin’ by Ariel Rivera and ‘Ngumiti, Tumawa, Magsaya, Kumanta’ by Cynthia Garcia. The group only had 15 days of practice . In addition to this, not all members were allowed by their parents to attend some of the practices; this made it hard for the group to practice the blending and harmony of the vocalizations. Despite this predicament, they were able to get 1st runner-up in the competition.
“Nakakakaba, sobra nung una, pero pagdating ng second song namin, it felt like we were just jamming along with each other,” said Grade 10 Aron Arnedo. “I did not regret anything. I learned various experiences in singing and gained more exposure to the crowd. Another thing I learned is that singing is not only about having a good voice, it’s also about having feelings and emotions in your voice, as well as controlling your breathing patterns and improving your vocalization while doing so,” Arnedo added.
